    FAQ's

Do you require a power of attorney?

No. Other companies require a power of attorney because they are signing your documents using their employees' names, not your name. They need a power of attorney to sign your documents. We do not sign your documents. You sign them (after we complete them for you).

Do you require me to pay for mail forwarding services?

No. We offer mail forwarding services for free but only for title and registration purposes. You can not use our mailing address to receive bank statements, credit card bills, etc.

Do you require me to have a South Dakota address?

No. If other companies require you to have a South Dakota address it is either because that is a decision they have made as a prerequisite to providing SD registration or they are wanting to maximize their profit by selling you mail forwarding services.

Do I need to bring my car/boat/RV/ATV to South Dakota to qualify for South Dakota registration?

    No.

Can I get license plates for a disabled person?

Not unless you have a South Dakota driver license.

How can I get a South Dakota driver license?

Go to South Dakota for one week, stay in a hotel or a campground, and use that address as the address for your driver license. You will need to show proof of payment for your hotel or campground rent/lease/occupancy. You should ask the hotel or campground operator if he will accept mail on your behalf since your driver license will be mailed to you at that address.

How do I change my insurance to South Dakota?

You do not change your insurance. You do not need to inform your insurance company that you changed registration. Your insurance is based on where you keep the vehicle most of the time, not where it is registered. Registering your vehicle, boat, RV, or motorcycle in South Dakota does not change where you keep your vehicle. And if you are a full-time RV'er and you travel full-time, your insurance is based on your state of domicile. You can establish South Dakota as your domicile if you want. Then you can obtain a South Dakota address and make South Dakota your state of domicile. But as a result, your driver license will show a South Dakota address and you will need to obtain a South Dakota mail forwarding service. BUT WAIT A MINUTE! Think about how this might change your health insurance benefits, income taxation, voter registration, medicare and medicaid benefits, etc. If you want us to consult with you on whether you should establish South Dakota as your state of domicile, let us know. We have a separate service that asks you a variety of questions and prepares a report for you showing the pros and cons for your specific life situation.

Can I register a vehicle with a rebuilt title or with salvage history?

Yes. No special documentation is required if this is the title HISTORY. If you have a salvage title and you recently finished rebuilding a vehicle and need to get a new clean title showing that it is no longer salvage, you cannot register this vehicle in South Dakota unless you go to South Dakota to have the vehicle inspected. The better idea for someone who doesn't want to go to South Dakota is to have the rebuilt vehicle inspected in your current resident state, obtain a clean title from your resident state (which probably requires you to pay sales tax), and use that title to register the vehicle in South Dakota (and no sales tax will be due if you can show that the sales tax was previously paid and that you paid at least 4%).

Can I register my ATV for road use in South Dakota?

Yes. You need to sign a form showing that the ATV is road ready (has all the required safety features like lights, mirrors, etc.).
